9-5 Engines and oils

The most common engines found in the Saab 9-5 are 4-cylinder 2.0 and 2.3 litre engines. These are 4-cylinder in-line turbo charged engines with 4 valves per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, and 2 balancer shafts integrated in the cylinder block. Engines a cross-flow type with the inlet ports on one side of the combustion chamber and the exhaust ports on the other side.

When the Saab 9-5 was introduced there were two engines available -B205E (150 hp/240 Nm) and B235E (170 hp/280 Nm).

Over the years a range of variants were introduced to increase power and torque. In addition to the B205/B235, the Saab 9-5 was equipped with a range of 4 and 6 cylinder petrol and diesel engines with various turbines available. All the petrol engines are turbocharged, have “E-throttle”, and are fitted with Saab’s Trionic engine management system T7. Below is the list of all 9-5 engines:

The importance of using the right oil

Motor oil is the lifeblood of a car’s engine, providing essential protection and longevity for all the moving parts. Driving with low oil levels, or even the wrong grade will affect your engine’s performance, efficiency and ultimately durability. As turbochargers spin at well over 100,000 revs per minute, using the right grade of oil to maintain lubrication is an absolute must. The consequential damage being far greater than any potential saving in using an alternative grade of oil.

Only the right oil protects your engine. To keep your engine lubricated and protected, Saab did specify oil grades for different models, which are still available today, engineered and blended to the exact Original grade.

Saab Genuine oils are available from the nearest Saab specialists and shortly from the Saab 95 Club direct, to keep your Saab running well long.
